If my makeup collection was destroyed, what would I repurchase first? y’know, after I’d finished my emotional breakdown…
1- Primer- Benefit POREfessional, £26.00.
This is my go-to primer. I have combination skin with large pores on my nose and cheeks. This primer evens my skin tone out and creates a smooth base for my foundation, giving an airbrushed look to my makeup.
2- Foundation- Tarte Rainforest of the sea, £30.00
This is my holy-grail makeup product. I have backups of my backups. It’s water-based so provides hydration and it is so buildable in coverage yet it feels like there is nothing on my face. I LOVE it.
3- Concealer- Nyx HD Concealer Wand, £6.00.
There is going to be a bit of a NYX theme to this post, their products are so affordable yet the quality rivals even the most expensive brands and this concealer is no exception! I use the shade 01 Porcelain to brighten my under-eye area.
4- Setting Powder- NYX HD finishing powder, £9.00.
This product seems to get mixed reviews online because it can give a lot of flashback if it is used to bake but I just use it to set my foundation and concealer and I have no complaints. As you can see from the picture, it is well-loved.
5- Brows- Nyx Brow Cake powder, £6.00, Benefit Precisley, my brow pencil, £20.00, Benefit Ready, set, brow, £20.00.
Right, a long one. I always use a powder and a pencil when doing my brows and these are my favourite. They are really good products, even if the Benefit ones are a little bit on the pricey side, they definitely earn their price tag! Ready, Set, Brow is like glue for your face, your brows do. not. budge. Plus I love the names of the Benefit products, they’re so clever and funny. At least to me.
6- Eye Shadow- Too Faced Natural Love Palette, £52.00.
So, my favourite eyeshadows are actually the Colourpop Super Shock Shadows but if this is going to be all I have, a palette only makes sense! I love the Natural Love Palette, the colour selection is right up my alley and very similar in tone to the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette which is another one of my everyday staples. The reason I chose this one though is because it has the perfect mix of mattes, shimmers and glitters as well as light and dark shades which means it is perfect for everyday use and for a more glam look.
7- Eyeliner and Mascara- Kat Von D Tattoo Liner, £16.00, NYX Retractable eye pencil, £5.50, Benefit Roller Lash mascara, £20.50.
These might be some of my favourite products in this post. The KVD liner is the only thing I can do winged liner with, it is sooooooo easy because the tip is really flexible which sounds scary but it actually means that the pen does the work for you. The NYX Pencil has a funny story behind it. For years I used the MAC Technakohl liner, which is amazing, but the NYX one is EXACTLY the same and a third of the price! Okay, so it wasn’t that funny… Moving on. I am blessed with long eyelashes so I don’t really look for lengthening mascaras so the Benefit Roller Lash is perfect for me because its curved wand just provides an extra bit of shape without making my lashes look like spiders’ legs.
8- Bronzer/Contour- Benefit Hoola Lite, £24.50 or as part of the Cheek Parade Palette, £50.00.
If your skin tone is like mine and rivals Casper the Friendly Ghost’s this is the perfect bronzer! I don’t have to worry about it making me too bronzed or orange, it just gives a really natural glow to the skin and is perfect for summer! Tip: if I want a more dramatic look, I’ll use Hoola Lite to bronze and blend into Hoola to give a more defined contour.
9- Blush- Nars blush in Orgasm, £23.00.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this blush! It is a cult favourite for a reason! I imagine it suits most if not all skin tones and can be built from a healthy rosy-cheeked look to a really bright pink.
10- Highlighter- Urban Decay Afterglow powder highlighter in Sin, £21.00.
The quality of Urban Decay products is always incredible and this highlighter is just gorgeous. Like the Nars Blush, it is buildable so can give a healthy glow or an intense shine.
11- Setting spray- Smashbox Primer Water, £22.00.
I chose this because it is so multi-functional. It can be used to prime, set or throughout the day to refresh your makeup. it has a nice hydrating feel to it and it really does make makeup last longer once applied.
So, these are the products I would immediately repurchase if- god forbid- my makeup collection was destroyed. Let me know what you would buy or what your favourite makeup product is in the comments.
